Chiara Manese, mezzo-soprano and crossover singer, is at the heart of this conversation on the theme: the voice between opera and new sounds. The dialogue retraces experiences, choices and reflections that emerged during the interview, leaving room for the guest’s voice.
The beginnings and passion
What are the significant moments of your approach in music, especially in opera? Was it a choice dictated by the case or passion?
Manese: It was a choice made by a very young passion for classical music that I have had since childhood. I had the opportunity to study at a professional level in Italy and abroad, I sang in distant places where lyrics are very appreciated, Mexico, Turkey, Egypt, I am very happy with this.

I found that you're a girl who loves various musical genres, from rock music to opera. What's one of these genres arouses emotions?
Manese: Each of them arouses emotions. Lirica is my job, despite the other genres that sing parallelly stimulate me and enrich me not less, Pop Lirico, Rock, Metal etc...
How do you feel when you sing?
Manese: So many things... too much to describe... especially the joy of giving emotions to the Universe.
“It was a choice made by a very young passion for classical music that I had since childhood”
One of the songs I heard about your beautiful artistic career was “Freedom for all women” (Freedom for all women). Listening to this song, I felt that it is a very important theme: the violence of women. How come you've been interested in this topic so current?
Manese: Because I am Donna and because I see injustices around me, especially I see a new wave of malelism among the very young, instigated by “artists” whose questionable “works” exalt physical and verbal sexual violence against women.
Music and words
How much does the lyrics of a song count for you?
Manese: Very...must express a message of reflection, it must sometimes puncture to touch taboo arguments...always with a veil of hope.
What is your interpretative approach in preparing a role in opera?
Manese: Understand the character, enter it, and of course study a lot of the score otherwise you do not go anywhere!
“Lirica is my work, yet the other genres that sing parallelly stimulate me and enrich me not less, Pop Lirico, Rock, Metal etc...”
How would you like to see the future of opera music today?
Manese: I would like to see less nepotism and favors...in addition to bringing young people closer by proposing an image of fresh and new Lirica, keeping the composer's language unchanged, of course.
Are you talking about your new single?
Manese: “I will ask” deals with the theme of ecologist, how much our planet is suffering and also of love “the real one”, that precisely for the Mother Earth. It was written and arranged by Luigi Mosello and Andrea De Paoli, soon the video clip will be released, while you can find it on the world's largest digital stores.
Inspirations and references
What is the soundtrack of your professional personal journey?
Manese: I'd say my voice to you, because if you don't believe it in your instrument, who?
Who would you like to thank for your personal career? What will your future projects be?
Manese: “I’ve released this spring a record with a Milan project called Blut, it will be a very introspective and well cared for in the melodies in the arrangements, who follows me on social media will also be informed of this release.
I would like to thank my family and my dear friends who have always supported me, and myself, because without the inner strength it is unthinkable today any artistic path.
