Federico Mancini, actor, is at the heart of this conversation on the theme: enter the characters. The dialogue retraces experiences, choices and reflections that emerged during the interview, leaving room for the guest’s voice.

The cinema and its stories

When did you start your way to the world of acting? What were the cinema and the theatre for you?

Mancini: “First of all, I greet you. I started at about 13 years, an afternoon strolling through the district of Rome and noticed an inn of a theatre workshop. I was with a friend of mine, and we looked at each other and said, "Let's try? It was love at first sight. Through acting, I learned how to channel emotions. I'm shy of nature, but on that scalded stage I felt the master of the world and all the fears faded.

I immediately realized that I could be with me this has enthralled me from the very first moment.”

Among the many characters you interpreted What is what you have left in your heart? What are the objectives that have characterized it?

Mancini: ” All the characters I've played have remained in my heart. There is no one I love more than others. Each of them represents a love story that begins, a development and an end.”

Do you feel like a comedy or dramatic actor?

Mancini: I feel like an actor. Point! I've got dramatic comedy ropes, like each of us.

“Regarding the question I don’t know what my theater and cinema is like”

When the director offers you the part, do you immediately become part of the character to play?

Mancini: “When a director offers me a part by carefully reading the script or the script and I start to ask two million questions. Then I work on memory, on articulation I observe the world that surrounds me with more attention. I have to get on the set or on the first day of evidence knowing I can handle the character. At this point, a group work begins with me, the director and his colleagues and slowly the character takes shape, becomes alive.”

The public and the language of comedy

The theatre was born in Greece in Athens in the 5th century BC, while the comedian theatre was born thanks to the texts of Plauto and Terenzio. The actor to interpret a part well needs the help of the playwright or screenwriter. How much is the relationship between actors and screenplayers or dramatists influenced in theatre and cinema? Is there any discord between the two sides?

Mancini: “In the theatre there can be no good text if there is no good dramatist. It all starts from the word.”

The theatre of Pirandello is based on the poetics of humor, the feeling of the contrary. It (the poetics of humor) made a distinction between person/personage (mask) claiming that the "mask" or character is the one or the one who recites the part dictated by society. Your theatre (ironically we call it Mancinian) and the cinema that you do is combined with the poetics of Pirandello's humor?

Mancini: Ahh ah haha manciniano makes me laugh! Besides, I'm left-handed, I write with the left, so... About the question I don’t know what to tell you what my theater and my cinema is like. I have a belly approach, I seek emotions, feelings and once you find the fixed ones and try to bring them back to the viewer

“Through the recitation I learned how to channel emotions”

Is it exciting for you to act on a stage or in a movie?

Mancini: It's exciting for me to play! It doesn't matter if on a set, on a stage or on a square!

How did the world of cinema change during its excursus?

Mancini: Getting into a project is increasingly difficult TV does not help in this. The actor’s craft is a profession but the more time passes, the more I realize that it is given an important major to appear instead of being

Inspirations and references

What is the soundtrack of your professional personal journey? What are the models you've inspired to become a great actor?

Mancini: The first song that comes to mind is “Home” by Michael Bublè. I listened to her on a tour when I was still out of the house for 7 or 8 months. He reminded me that, however, I was always waiting for a house and affections and he put me serenity. There is not only work and this, we actors, we forget it often. I've always had a weakness for Robin Williams, a wonderful actor. He left us really too early. This is the kind of actor I'd like to become.

Who would you like to thank for your professional personal journey? What will your future projects be?

Mancini: “My family has always indulged and prone to me, even in times of difficulty and all the people who follow me and show me their affection and esteem, all the time. Regarding the projects, I would like to retrace a show I did last year: “The bench”; taken from a French text by Harvé Delvover. On stage it is me and my friend and colleague SabinaSebastiani and the show is signed by Paolo Venacore. It's been tiring and I want more people to see it.

About the cinema and television, I'm a writer, I audition and see what happens. Wishes for all Mariateresa and one in luck”!
