The Colorplay, Coldplay's tribute band, is at the heart of this conversation about the theme: music as a meeting. The dialogue retraces experiences, choices and reflections that emerged during the interview, leaving room for the guest’s voice.
The beginnings and passion
How did your artistic career begin? What was the music for you?
The Colorplay: Our artistic career began thanks to our meeting with Giuseppe Colapietro and we have brought our music for 2 years in the various Apulian squares, especially in the various municipalities of Bari and in the province of Bari and in the various premises. The music for us is everything. He's accompanying us in the evenings, it's good for us, it's good for us.

You love the group of “Coldplay” and in fact you are a tribute band of the famous British group led by Chris Martin. One of their pieces that I love most is “The Scientist” and the chorus says: “Rounding in circles/running our tails/returning back/to that we are”. If you go back, would you have ever thought about continuing to do music?
The Colorplay: Yes, actually, if we go back, we'll have thought about going on all we've done until now and having people have fun.
“Unfortunately in Italy music now exists as you have won the talent show and so you have become someone”
In Sanremo we have seen young artists, also groups, who come in the various talent shows. These talent shows, according to the “Colorplay”, are they a box of conformity or are they a path to help young artists to reach the peak of success? What is the talent for Colorplay?
The Colorplay: We believe that these talent shows are an advertising format. Unfortunately in Italy music now exists as you won the talent show and so you became someone. The real problem is that you can’t be someone for a summer by doing your own single and then, again, becoming nobody; this fact of talents happens, unfortunately, really in a few parts of the world, especially in Italy, and it’s something that spoils music.
The talent for us is not able to play an instrument, because the talent has the ability to make the audience feel and to those who are listening to the feelings that you try to play that particular song. This is the talent for us.
What is the difference between tribute band and cover band?
The Colorplay: Good question! Our opinion on this difference between tribute band and cover band is only subjective. The “Tribut Band” tries to empathize, tries to take everything that concerns the music of that famous band (for example we identify ourselves and try not to imitate Coldplay), instead the “Cover Band” is an imitation does not dress with the similar “dresses” we say sounds similar to that certain group, but does everything with its sounds and with its clothes continue to attract the public.
The tribute band is looking for the sound of that band.
“The talent for us is not able to play an instrument, because the talent has the ability to make the audience feel and to those who are listening to the feelings that you try to play that particular song”
Inspirations and references
What are the models you have inspired to become a huge tribute band?
The Colorplay: Listen, we don't have so many models that we've inspired each other, each of us comes from jazz music, electronic music, music rock. Each of us comes from any music. I can quote Plink Floyd, Rem, U2 etc... etc...
What is your soundtrack of life and art?
The Colorplay: The soundtrack of our artistic and life journey is without doubt “Charlie Brown” by Coldplay
Who do you want to thank for your professional personal journey? What are future projects?
The Colorplay: Without a doubt we want to thank our families who have supported us, the various squares where we were welcomed in a affectionate manner, the public who loves us. For future projects you can follow us on our Facebook page. We will be in Rutigliano and Casamassima. Thanks to you for this very articulated and beautiful interview!
I conclude this interview, mentioning one of the answers given by our Tribut Band “the Tribut Band is a band that improvises and empathizes in that particular band”. To this statement I add that Francis, Joseph, Francis, Luke and David, these four members of the “Colorplay” have revived the music of the “Coldplay” and have emphased themselves with the praises sounds in the music of the most famous British band in the world.
